Obituary of Barbara Elaine Clark

Barbara Elaine Dillard Clark, former longtime Williamson County School Board member, passed away on May 3, 2021 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee at the age of 73. Barbara battled medical problems most of her life, but it did not define her as a person. She and husband, George, and family lived many years in the Grassland area near Franklin before moving to Murfreesboro. Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband George and her parents, Helen and Guy Dillard. She is survived by her sons George Clark lV (Julie) of Woodstock, GA, John Clark (Amey) of Murfreesboro, and Spencer Morrison of Franklin, who she loved like her own; daughter Rebecca Marshall Roush (Chip) of Buchanan, MI; granddaughters Hannah, Haley, and Lola Clark; sister Wanda Odum (Don) of Lewisburg; and brother Gary Dillard of Nashville. Barbara worked for Drs. Williams, Miller, Netherton, and Bethurum where she was known to be very accommodating and knowledgeable. Barbara was elected to the Williamson County Board of Education for two terms beginning in 1982 and ending in 1990 when she resigned for health reasons. Barbara was Vice Chair of the board when she resigned and was an extremely valued and experienced member whose expertise was greatly missed. The Review-Appeal in Franklin wrote an editorial referring to Barbara as a dynamic woman who was devoted to the county’s children and noted the long, tedious hours she spent working to make the schools the best they could be. Barbara’s love and care for animals was well-known and was indicative of her kindhearted response to those in need, extending to people, cats, dogs, ferrets, birds, squirrels, etc. Family and friends described Barbara as compassionate, loving, strong, generous of spirit, kind, funny, gentle, soft-spoken, problem solver, resilient, positive, and thoughtful. A Celebration of Life will be held June 19, 2021 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Montgomery Bell State Park Conference Center. 1020 Jackson Hill Rd, Burns, TN 37029.
