Obituary of Mr. Douglas "Smokey" Phelps

Mr. Douglas Mitchell "Smokey" Phelps, age 69 of Portland, TN., passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN. Mr. Phelps was born March 7, 1948 in Louisville, KY the son of the late Alvin and Virginia Phelps. Mr. Phelps is survived by his wife, Deborah Ellis Phelps of Portland, TN. A daughter, Joan Sorrow (Barry) of Portland, TN. Two grandchildren, Brandon and Bailey Sorrow. Along with his parents, Mr. Phelps was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Arlene Phelps and two brothers, David and Donald K. Phelps. Douglas was a member the Masonic Lodge in Laughlin/Ft. Sills, OK. He was a veteran of the US Army where he fought in the Vietnam War. He was the former owner of D&D Locksmith and was a musician/guitar player for many years. Memorial services will be held 5:00 PM Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Portland, TN. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until service time Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home.
