Obituary of Mr. Carl Edward Groves

Mr. Carl "Skippy" or "Strawberry" Groves, age 83 of Portland, TN., passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN. Mr. Groves was a born in Louisville, KY., the son of the late Earl and Louise Groves. Mr. Groves is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillie Groves of Portland, TN. 2 daughters; Phyllis (Bobby) Lame and Meredith (Ralph) White both of Portland, TN. 1 son, Wayne (Kay) Groves of Nashville, TN. 4 sisters; Bonnie (Russell) Howell of Elizabethtown, KY., Ethel (Pete) Campbell of Gallatin, TN., Mary (Raymond) Groves of Portland, TN., and Donna Susan Haliburton of Gallatin, TN. 1 brother, Don (Donna) Groves of Orlinda, TN. 6 grandchildren; Virgil Shane Lame, Elizabeth Lame Pippin, Carl Adam Groves, Tiffany Groves Trukovich, Drake Braxton White, Kinsey Catherine Elise White. 5 great grandchildren; Bobbi Madison Pippin, Mallory Kay Lame, Kayley Elizabeth Lame, Adelaide Dot Groves, Aiden Godric Groves. Mr. Groves was preceded in death by 1 brother, Robert Earl Groves. Mr. Groves was retired from TVA where he was a welder and boilermaker for many years. He is a member of Portland Masonic Lodge #326 and Union Chapel General Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at Portland Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Garden in Franklin, KY. Visitation will be after 1:00 PM Tuesday and from 9:00 AM until service time Wednesday at Portland Funeral Chapel.
