Obituary of Portia Neathery Herndon

Portia Neathery Herndon, age 59 of Gallatin, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023.   A Gathering of Friends will be Saturday, July 22^nd from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Sellars Family Heritage at Gallatin.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Safe Place for Animals, 905 Mallard Drive, Gallatin, TN  37066, please note that your memorial is to benefit cats in honor of Portia Herndon.

Mrs. Herndon was born December 17, 1963 in Glasgow, KY.   She is survived by husband of 24 years, Terry Herndon of Gallatin, TN; parents, James Neathery and Doris McCool Neathery of Bowling Green, KY; son, Nicholas Lawhon (Hope Hawkins) of Munfordville, KY; step-son, Guy Herndon of Gallatin, TN; brother, Robert Neathery (Ellen) of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren, Brenin Ryan Lawhon and Felicity Aeris Lawhon; and beloved cats, Hank, Milo, and Jr.  Mrs. Herndon was a nurse for over 36 years, working at Sumner Regional Medical Center, Hendersonville Hospital, and St. Thomas Hospital.  Mrs. Herndon loved to travel, especially to Chicago, where she enjoyed attending sporting events; in addition, she enjoyed the beach, with a special love for Ft. Walton Beach. She was an avid Vanderbilt Commodores Fan who enjoyed attending games with her family.  Portia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com.
