Obituary of Susie Powell

Susie Powell passed away on August 30, 2023 at age 67. The Funeral Service, conducted by Brother Edgar Boles, is 2 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. Interment in Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens will follow the service. Visitation on Friday, September 1, 2023 is from 4-8 p.m. at Living Springs Baptist Church (4559 Weakley Lane) Mt. Juliet TN.

Susie Powell was born in Lebanon, TN on October 14, 1955 to Martha Huffines and JD Presley. She attended Lebanon High School, eventually earning her GED. Susie was married to the love of her life, Gary W Powell, for an incredible 49 years. Together, they raised 3 handsome sons: the late Jason (Monica) Presley, Shane (Michelle) Powell, and Brian Powell. Together, Susie and Gary shared 6 granddaughters, and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom were her pride and joy.

Susie is preceded in death by her late parents, Martha Huffines and JD Presley; son, Jason Presley; and sisters, Mona Williams, Sylvia Cunningham, and Debra Presley. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary W Powell; her children, Shane (Michelle) Powell, and Brian Powell; her grandchildren, Britney (DeVonte) Cobb, Kiersten Powell, Jaylen Presley, Karleigh Powell, Maya Powell, and Autumn Presley; and her great grandchildren Paislee Cobb, Elliana Cobb, Ayden Cobb, Ivey Jo Cobb, and Xzavian Smith. Susie is also survived by her sisters Peggy Hanes, Patty Tomlinson, and Karen (Charlie) Leyhew, as well as a great number of nieces and nephews, all of whom adored her.

Susie worked at Whirlpool Corporation for 25 years as a supervisor. She was “the best cook in the world” according to her grandchildren. She loved Christmastime, red trucks, her snow-globe collection and the Smoky Mountains. Susie loved babysitting, especially being “MoMo” to Hendrix. She also loved gardening, and crocheting. She was especially bossy and was always known to wear red nail polish and a Farrah-Fawcett hairstyle. Her laugh was infectious and she always met her children and grandchildren with a big hug. Most of all, Susie loved Jesus and she loved her church, Living Springs Baptist, where she served in Sunday School.

Susie went home to Jesus on August 30th, 2023 at age 67. Visitation will be held at Living Spring Baptist Church on September 1st, 2023 from 4-8pm. Visitation will also be held at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon, TN on Sept 2nd, 2023 from 1-2pm with service to follow at 2pm. Burial will be at Mt Juliet Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Drew Douglas, Brenner Rogers, Bob Williams, Timmy Powell, Trent Powell, Eugene Neal, DeVonte Cobb, and Isaiah Smith.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Living Springs Baptist Church and to everyone who has been so gracious and kind during this time.
