Obituary of Terry Dotson

James Terry Dotson.

Age 66. Passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee. Terry was born March 29,1957 in Alkol, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by parents Ruben and Florence Dotson and siblings Dennis Egnor, Joyce Simantel, Jan Oshel, and Sue Ryan.

He is survived by loving wife, Karen Vickers Dotson; devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Andy Whisenant; beloved grandson, Grayson Whisenant; and siblings Shannon Dotson, Boyce Dotson, Gary Dotson, and Susie Hudson.

Terry was a Christian and grew up attending Sycamore Grove Baptist Church. He was a 1975 graduate of Duval High School and a 1979 graduate of Glenville State College, with a degree in oral and safety communications. He moved to Nashville in 1986 as the drummer of Jeff Stevens and the Bullets. He later worked in telecommunications and retired from Verizon in 2017. Terry was a songwriter, photographer, dedicated family man, and adoring “Gramps.”

Visitation will be held at Sellars Funeral Home (2229 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122) on Sunday, September 24 from 1-3 PM. Celebration of life services begin at 3 PM, officiated by John Whisenant.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made for pancreatic cancer research in Terry’s name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN.org).
