Obituary of James "Jimmie" Glenn Griffin, Sr.

Mr. James “Jimmie” Glenn Griffin, Sr. age 84, of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, November 10, 2023. Jimmie was born in Lyles, Tennessee on September 4, 1939 to the late Buford and Clara Bentley Griffin.

Jimmie graduated from Hickman County High School in Lyle, TN in 1958.  In 1963, he married the love of his life, Linda Luther, and moved to Nashville. In 1967, they moved to Hendersonville, where they would reside permanently and raise their family. Jimmie was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, co-worker, friend and brother in the Lord.  If you knew him, he knew you very well, because he was an investor in people.  He placed a great value on knowing folks at a heart level.  No trip to Walmart was quick, as he would speak to any and all, and he always left you with a kind word or funny joke. Second only to his relationship with the Lord, was his devout relationship to his family.  There was no one on the planet that he would rather spend time with than them. If you wanted to know how great of a family he had, just ask him (or not), and he was going to tell you.  According to him, his family was his greatest accomplishment. Jimmie also valued hard work.  He retired from Pirelli (formerly Armstrong and Gates) Tire Company after 36 years, working as a tire builder, research and developer, and union officer.  After retirement, he worked and volunteered in various capacities, but ultimately became a professional grandfather. He was an avid sports fan and coached for several years. He loved the Red Sox, the Commodores, the Vols and the Duke Blue Devils. He loved to cook, enjoyed reading, trivia, and he read the newspaper front to back every day. Jimmie was a believer in simple old school principals - be right with Jesus, be honest, work hard, and spend time with those you love.  As far as he was concerned, if you did that, the rest would take care of itself.  He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Griffin, Doyle Griffin, and Charlie Griffin; sisters, Geraldine Griffin Turman and Margie Griffin Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Linda Luther Griffin; son, James (Malinda) Griffin, Jr.; daughter, Tiffany (Rob) Horton; grandchildren, Brittany (Matt) Kriesky, Trent Griffin, Trevor Horton, Erica Horton, and Victoria Griffin; great-grandchildren, Lynnlee Kriesky and Griffin Kriesky.

A Service celebrating Jimmie’s life will be held Wednesday, November 15th at 12:00 PM from the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Hendersonville. Tommy Marvin will be carrying Jimmie back home to the Luther Family Cemetery in Dickson, Tennessee following the service. Pallbearers will be Trent Griffin, Trevor Horton, Tim Johnson, Rocky Bowker, Keith Bowker and Matt Kriesky. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, November 14th from 5:00-8:00 PM and Wednesday, November 15th from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM.
