Obituary of James G. Black

Mr. James G. Black, age 81 of Portland, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023. James was born on February 15, 1942 in Robertson County, Tennessee to the late Hershel E. and Minnie Bell Black. He was raised at Bryam’s Chapel Church and received Christ as a teenager.

James was well-loved by his family. He loved to have fun and knew the value of having laughter in his life. It was a joy to know him. He spent the majority of his career farming and working as a supervisor at the Garcy Corporation. In his free time, he enjoyed watching the news, football, wrestling, and racing. Nothing brought him more joy than his daughter, his granddaughters, and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Groves Black; brothers, Hobert Black, Lloyd Black, Charles Black, and Donnie Black; sister, Ella Mae Black.

He is survived by his daughter, Gina (Jamie) Duke; granddaughters, Kassie (Colt) Collier and Kallie Bradley; great-grandchildren, Jackson Collier, Deacon Collier, Campbell Collier, Gus Collier, and Scout Collier; sisters, Clarise Lehman, Ophelia Couts, and Mary Roberts.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Sellars Family Heritage at Portland. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, November 18th from 10:00 AM until time of service at 3:00 PM.
