Obituary of Donald "Doogie" Elbert Martin

The Martin family wishes to announce the passing of their brother, Mr Donald "Doogie" Elbert Martin, who ending his battle with cancer and chemo in the early morning hours of January 2, 2024, has went to his eternal reward.  With his passing our sibling circle of ten is broken, the remaining nine will miss him.  He was born in Portland on November 16, 1958 to William Franklin Martin and Nila Jean (Durham) Martin.  He loved music and dancing.  His biggest love was nature, especially farm animals and pets which he tended his whole life.  He worked for 30 years at the Crescent Manufacturing plant in Gallatin, Tennessee until its closing and also for 18 years at Olhausen Billiards in Portland, Tennessee.

            He is preceded in death by his loving father, William Franklin Martin, several uncles and aunts, Ruby Pauline (Martin) Anderson and husband Mr William Elbert Anderson, Julia Corinne (Martin) Walker, and husband Mr James Howard Walker, Vernon Talmadge Martin, Winona Alice Martin, Annie Louise (Martin) Sherron, and husband Mr Garland Edward Sherron, Betty Sue (Martin) Troutt and Mr Leroy Troutt, Lawrence Brady Durham Jr and wife Maxine (Draper), Everett Randolph Durham, Ruth Allitine (Durham) Carter and husband George Carter, Billy Roark Durham and wife Margaret (Perry) Durham, and Mr Dewey Allen Pryor.

            Doogie leaves behind many friends and a large extended family of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces, and cousins.  He is survived by his loving mother, Nila Jean (Durham) Martin, uncles and aunts, Wilma Frances "Peggy" Pryor, Mr Alton Rabon Durham and wife Linda Durham.  He is survived by nine siblings Barbara Jean (Martin) Kirkham and husband Larry E. Kirkham, James Franklin Martin, Gary Michael Martin and wife Donna L. (Sanders) Martin, Randy David Martin and wife Sharon M. (Horton) Martin, Tracy Allen Martin and wife Hannah G. (Heatherly) Martin, Kenneth Wayne Martin, Lisa G. Canary, Danny Ray Martin and wife Tiffany D. (Roberts) Martin, Kevin Scott Martin and wife Tina (Fatolitis) Martin. 

Funeral Service will be Sunday, January 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Sellars Family Heritage at Gallatin.  Visitation will be Friday, January 5th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6th from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, January 7th from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be the brothers, in addition to honorary brother, Mr. Larry E. Kirkham.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the animal charity of your choice.  The obituary was lovingly written by the family.  Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com.
