Obituary of Boby Garrett

Roberta Caruthers Garrett of Charlotte, NC, fondly known as Boby, embarked on her eternal journey at the age of 87, having birthed a tapestry of laughter, love, and creativity that will forever warm the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.

Born and raised in the landscapes of Old Hickory and Shackle Island, Boby cultivated a lifetime of treasured memories that became the foundation of her joyful spirit. A proud graduate of Hendersonville High School, she lived her life with a rhythm uniquely her own.

In July 1957, Boby joined hands and hearts with Bill Garrett, her partner in life. Together, they left an indelible mark on every place they called home. Boby was not just a wife; she was a steady foundation for their shared adventure.

Boby's career was marked with creativity and dedication. From lead roles at Avon to various positions that showcased her valued contributions, she proved that passion and hard work were the threads that sewed success.

Her creative talents included sewing, knitting, drawing, gardening, piano playing, and a kaleidoscope of arts and crafts – Boby's hands were the tools that shaped beauty in every form. Her home, a gallery of her artistry, echoed with the warmth of her love.

Devotion defined Boby, as she poured her heart into her family, home, friends and the churches she attended. A beacon of support, she volunteered and was always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need. Her kindness and generosity were stitches in the fabric of countless lives.

Though life's journey took Boby and Bill to various states, Tennessee remained the melody in their hearts. Frequent visits, extended gatherings with family and friends, and the creation of beautiful memories became their tradition. Even as the sands of time claimed some memories, Boby often spoke of her home in Tennessee, a testament to the enduring connections she cherished.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Martha Caruthers; parents-in-law Hugh and Lucile Garrett; sisters Linda Morris, Ann Nichols, and Jean Smiley; brother-in-law Bobby Garrett; sister-in-law Jo Ann Garrett Turner; brother-in-law Donald Turner, and niece Shari Turner.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill; daughter Cherie Garrett Welborn, son-in-law Randy Welborn, grandson Garrett Welborn, son Rick Garrett, grandpups Coco and Coral, brother Wayne Caruthers, sister-in-law Marie Oliphant, brother-in-law Kenneth Smiley, sister-in-law Mary Garrett, brother-in-law James Morris, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to VIA Health Partners of Charlotte hospice services; Robertson Funeral and Cremation Service of Charlotte, NC; Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet; and Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens for their compassionate services. They would also like to extend very special gratitude to her caregivers from Carepoint in Charlotte, NC, especially Rosebelle Mungai, with whom she formed a special bond.

A visitation for Boby will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with a service officiated by Rev. Ronnie Pittenger at 12:30 pm.
