Obituary of June Gonzalez
Buddy “June” Gonzalez passed away peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by family after an extended illness on March 15, 2024. Mrs. Gonzalez was 94. June was born to Anne Maude Bowen Hare and Louis Walker Hare in Old Hickory TN. She was always known for her love of life and laughter and believed in hard work.
She worked at American Airlines Sky Chef. That is where she met her husband Cesareo Pedro “Pete” Gonzalez. While they both were employed, they took every opportunity to travel abroad and experience new cultures and one of her biggest joys was being able to share these things with her grandchildren. Being a grandmother gave her such a sense of pride and she went out of her way all the time to show her love. Another passion of hers was singing. She recorded her first album called “December 1949”. She was so proud that it was dedicated to all the U.S. Soldiers. Being a Tennessean and a U.S. Citizen, she thought was the biggest privilege ever. She enjoyed her performances at the Nashville Palace. As long as she was strumming her guitar, she was smiling or laughing. Her album is still available today. When she turned 85, she decided she wanted to go back to work, which she did as Manager for Waffle House. And then she started her Karate lessons. She taught all of her kids, grandkids, on down, that nothing was impossible if you set your mind to it.
She is loved and going to be missed by so many, but her memory will always be with us. June is preceded in death by her husband Pedro Gonzalez, brother Darryl Hare, sister Margaret Dean (David) Beasley, and parents Maude and Walker Hare and step-father William Oakley. She is survived by her daughter: Gloria D. Oakley; son: William “Billy” D. (Margie) Oakley; grandchildren: Robert W. (DeWard) Askew, Jennifer Askew (Leroy) Poole, Rhonda Warden (David) Bowen, and Becky Warden (Bubba) Roberts; great-grandchildren: Kristina L. Jordan (Gary) Harkins, Amy L. (Ryan) Jordan, Lacey Garcia (Donovan) Lee, Heidi C. Roberts and Rachel Bowen; and great-great grandchildren: Miguel A. Resto, Kensley M. Garcia Lee, Karter M. Garcia Lee, Micah Joseph Harkins, and Marley J. McAlexander.
