Obituary of Lucille Lowry
LOWRY, Lucille "Lulu", was born January 29, 1913 in rural Davidson County. She passed away August 16, 2013 at the age of 100. Lulu graduated from Central High School in Ashland City, TN and also from Nashville Business College and Watkins Institute. After working at the Belle Meade Hosiery Mills in Nashville, she took and passed the Civil Service Exam. In September, 1941, she accepted a position at the Pentagon with the Department of the Navy in Washington, DC. Throughout WWII she worked in the Labor Relations Section. At the end of the war, she went to work for the Under Secretary of the Navy, John L. Sullivan. She remained with him as he served as the Secretary of the navy under President Truman. In 1956, she accepted a post in Paris, France at S.H.A.P.E. She worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Staff until her retirement in 1971. Upon her return to the US, she became very active in church and community activities, especially the Senior Citizens. But what she loved more than anything else was spending time with her family. Preceded in death by parents, Walter & Mary Davis; son, John Lowry III, grandchildren, Kaye Wilson and Kerry Wilson; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters. She is survived by daughter, Anne (Randolph) Wilson; grandchildren, Beverly (Glenn) Jordan; Mike (Cindy) Wilson and Kevin (Christie) Wilson; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberly, Stephanie, Christopher, Matthew and Parker; and great-great-grandchildren, Sam, Liam, Jackson, Gracie, Conner and Emily. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 21st at 6:30 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Pastor Ed Britt officiating.
