Obituary of Sadie Elizabeth Rohtert

ROHTERT, Sadie Elizabeth, born March 21, 1921, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2011 at Alive Hospice in Madison, TN. Elizabeth was the beloved mother of six children, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Elizabeth was a care giver to all and a fountain of love, caring and understanding. She lived in the Nashville area her entire life and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. She showered thoughtfulness and kindness on all she knew and met. Elizabeth lived through the Great Depression and World War II, and from these experiences she learned to do the best possible in hard times and always be a Good Samaritan. These lessons were never lost on her and she taught them to her children and their children. She not only raised six children but also held a full time job for many years at Harvey's Department Store in Nashville to help support the family. After raising six children she helped to raise her grandchildren by caring for them while their parents worked. She was proud to see her two oldest sons, Mike and Bill, both serve their country in the Army and Navy, respectively. Her greatest joy was seeing her two youngest, Tom and Roger, graduate from college and seeing her youngest son, Roger, become an Eagle Scout. Her lifelong love of children lives on through her daughter, Libby, who has made her career the care of small children and has worked for La Petite Academy for more than twenty years. Elizabeth spent much of her later years in sharing with the poor and homeless. Her hobby was sewing and needle work and she put these to use making handmade quilts and clothing that were distributed to the less fortunate. Before her death, Elizabeth's eldest daughter, JoAnne, aided her mother in these works and served as her mother's life long companion. Though never materially rich she was rich in spirit and love for all and was a blessing to her family. She is survived by son, Michael A. Rohtert and wife, Elaine; daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) A. Jamison; son, William A. Rohtert and wife, Dawn; son, Thomas J. Rohtert and wife, Nancy Baldwin; son, Roger S. Rohtert and wife, Diane Sue. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved step-father, Bill Lingerfelt; mother, Cassie Lingerfelt; husband, Joseph Thomas Rohtert; eldest daughter, Kathy JoAnne Rohtert; son-in-law, William (Billy Ray) R. Jamison; sister, Ruby Jones; and sister, Bessie Kennedy. Sadie Elizabeth Rohtert's services will be held Sunday, December 4th at 2 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Immediately thereafter, Elizabeth's burial will be at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens beside her husband, Joe and next to her daughter, JoAnne.
