Cheryl, Terry, and family, Gene was a super friend and outstanding mentor to me when I served with him as an instructor at the Air Traffic Control School in Millington TN. It was during that time that our families met and visited at each others homes. Gene will always be remembered as a loyal friend, true patriot, and an outstanding American! He will be truly missed by all of us that he led and served beside. As we all retire and go separate ways, we do lose the ability to visit and enjoy good times together. We never lose the memories. Cheryl, please feel free to call on me for anything you may need as you go through these difficult times. Unfortunately my attendance at Gene's memorial wasn't logistically possible due the distance and time constraints. Remember, you always have friends and help in the USN Chief Petty Officer fraternity. My condolences,
Ray

Cheryl, Terry, and friends. I served with Gene on the USS Eisenhower. Gene was always teacher. He taught us to be better Air Traffic Controllers, better sailors, and better men. Sometimes, for just a few dollars, he even taught us to be better backgammon players. Gene was the guy that everyone, junior or senior trusted. He earned that by being right countless times, and by taking the blame sometimes when it wasn't his mistake. I'll never forget being amazed at the people that came to pick Genes brain.
I'll also never forget that grin, the practical jokes, and the contagious laugh.
Gene made the years that I worked with him fly by. We will all miss him,
Thanks for sharing
My Condolences,
Rocky Thurman

"Although it has been many years since we were together, he was thought of fondly often, he was loved for being a warm and kind young man, and I am sure he matured and grew into an amazing person. We attend the same grade school for a short time and we were together, in our Junior and senior years at Avonworth H.S. Ben Avon, PA, we lived only a mile from each other, and he saved me from a horrible fate...taking the school bus...loved his '65 mustang and riding to school. He loved it too, he gave it up when we married and went to his first station NAAS, Fallon, Nevada. He played baseball in H.S. and was in the band. He was a kind and gentle soul and he was very much liked by my family. I saw him last in 1973 when our divorce was final. Condolences to his friends and family. Good sailing Gene" Judith Weissert McDonough Randolph
