Obituary of Barbara Jo Hurd
Barbara Jo Williams Hurd of Lebanon, passed away at home May 31, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Hurd was born in 1936 in Weston, West Virginia. She was raised in Virginia. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1954 and from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) with a B.S. degree in home economics in 1958. Immediately following graduation, she married J. Brent Hurd of Donelson. She was employed by the Department of Human Services as a social worker for 10 years and helped many local families. Mrs. Hurd started Hurd Properties, Inc. in Lebanon in 1986. She was a member of the Lebanon Year Round Garden Club, the Green Hills Womens Club and the Westland United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hurd was also a member of the Eastern Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors. She and her husband were members of Ilene"s Travel Group of Mt. Juliet for 20 years, visiting many U.S. cities and foreign countries. Mrs. Hurd is survived by her husband Brent of 53 years, son Raymond (Mimi) Hurd, and daughters Brenda (Phillip) Barnes, Becky (Kelly) Halsey, and Beverly (Rodney) Gibbs, a sister Alicia Blamphin of Annapolis MD, and sister-in-law Brownie Freeman. She had five grandchildren: Deanna Barnes, Madelyn Barnes, Olivia Hurd, Sam Hurd, and Zoey Halsey. Visitation at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon from 5-7 on Thursday, June 2, 2011. The chapel service, conducted by Dr. John Cheetham, is 3 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011. Private entombment in Hermitage Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Honorary Pallbearers: Arthur Jones, Dick Freeman, Ron Buck, Hale Moss, Ilene"s Travel Group, Year-Round Garden Club, Joe Harrison, Charlie Harrison, Blake Freeman, Don Matthys, Rodney Gibbs, Eric Gillberg, Johnny Noel, Lee Noel, Dr. Hardie Sorrells, Glyn Newton, and John Yount. The family extends special thanks to Nancy Boyd, and John and Alicia Blamphin for their caring and help with Barbara.
