Obituary of Rufus Howard Riggan

Rufus Riggan passed away on June 29, 2010 at age 91. Mr. Riggan had been the oldest member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in agriculture and worked as a farmer. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. The chapel service, conducted by Brother Gary McCaleb and Brother Eltis Brown, is 1 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010. Pallbearers: Chad Riggan, Bret Riggan, Tommy Everett, Scott Henley, Steven Rudolph, Eddie McCrary, Thomas Sullivan, Ray Burns, and Thomas Carney. Honorary Pallbearers: Mt. Olivet Baptist Senior Mens Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church (7463 Hickory Ridge Rd, Mt. Juliet TN 37122). Survivors include two children: Nancy (Jim) Green and Howard (Brenda Poole) Riggan; two grandchildren: Chad (Kris) Riggan and Brett (Bree) Riggan; and five great-grandchildren: Ali Sky Riggan, Russell Riggan,, Evan Riggan, Mikah Riggan, and Owen Riggan. He is preceded in death by wife of 40 years Christine Waters Riggan and wife in later years Sue Sinclair.
