I just saw that Mae had died last week in the Trevecca magazine. I have such fond memories of her and her family. I stayed with them in the 1950's during the summers when I worked at the Hot Shoppes of Marriott in the DC area. I would love to hear from anyone who knew her or any of her acquaintances or relatives.

Granny Mae (sign) What a very special person this world has lost. You know those moments when you fill really close to God and fill him in your heart and The Lord seems to consume your whole being. For most, I guess it would be in a church listening to the preacher's sermon. It wasn't church or the preacher for me- It was Granny Mae. Sitting next to her, her hand touched mind and I became over-whelmed, a flood - if you will. I felt as though God had entered my soul. I worked with Granny Mae for five years, before transfering to Maryville, TN.
She catered my Son's wedding. Not only was she a great cook, she was one of the wittiest people I have ever met. Except for famous old comics, no-one has made me laugh more. Thank-you Lord for these rare jewels you have placed on this earth, that touch our lives and make us better for having known them.

Grannie Mae held a special place in my heart. She had to be the most "self-less" person I have ever known. I first met her in 1989, shortly after moving here from Michigan. My husband was finishing up work in Michigan while I was in Unionville with my 2 young children. My daughter was sick and was to be hospitalized. I was here all alone and really knew no one.Grannie pulled up in her jeep and saw that I was anxious, she jumped out and started praying with me. From that moment on Grannie Mae was my dear friend and my spiritual mother in a sense. She never judged and was nothing but an incredible encourager. I loved her wit so much and have learned many valuable lessons from her wisdom. I have often wondered how many lives she has affected in such an awesome way? Grannie Mae was so proud of her wonderful family, I personally want to thank each of you for sharing her with all of us. I can't count the numerous times that Grannie was there for me during the years she worked as a mail carrier and for many years after her retirement. There is no doubt that she will be missed by all of us still left here, but I am sure heaven rejoiced when they saw her, and her rewards are many!! Love you Grannie Mae and look so forward to the day we will met again in heaven.

While "Granny Mae" was mail-carrier in Unionville, TN she became great friends with everyone who knew her. She was indeed a beaming light and a great source of encouragement to all. The picture looks just like she always was, smiling and happy. Family, I'm sorry of your loss, but she's completely healed now and has all things new in her new home. Sincerely, Nell & G.W. Granny Mae, as we all called her, was a very special lady and we were so blessed to have known her. I knew her from working with my mom, Martha Clark, at the Post Office in Unionville. She was always so happy and upbeat and funny. She could always make you smile. I am sure she is smiling now in "Heaven". May God bless her family. You will always have your memories. God Bless,
Debbie, David & Alyssa Fann
