Obituary of James Ira Bates

James Bates passed away on December 26, 2010 at age 94. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the chapel service on Wednesday. The service, conducted by Brother Carl Price, is 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Interment in LaGuardo Cemetery. Pallbearers: Dylan Gibson, Caleb Gibson, Ben Bates, James William Baird, Ricky Jennings, and Butch Heckman. A special thank you to Dr. Wayne Wells and staff, and N.H.C. Mr. Bates graduated from Lebanon High School in 1935 and graduated from Cumberland University in 1939 with a double major in mathematics and chemistry. He was a lifetime member of LaGuardo Baptist Church. Survivors include wife of 55 years: Glorice Nivens Bates; children: Sam (Rhee) Bates, Brenda (Bill) Baird, and Susie (Mark) Gibson; grandchildren: Jessica Asadsangabi, Courtney Bates, Ben Bates, Dylan Gibson, Caleb Gibson, and James William Baird; 2 step-grandsons: Jamy Gibson and Ryan Crook; niece: Rita Bates; and nephew: Butch Heckman. He is preceded in death by parents James Yeager and Jesse Mae Patrick Bates, sisters Mary Sue Bates and Lassie Sauls, and brothers Roger Bates and Wilson Bates.
