Obituary of Iva F. Cummings

CUMMINGS, Iva, age 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven on July 4, 2008. Iva Cummings was born on a rural farm by Lennox, SD on March 5, 1925 to Raymond & Bertha Gibson. She had five brothers & sisters. Iva married minister-evangelist-musician Donald Cummings on September 22, 1943 at the Church of God in Sioux Falls, SD where Don was assistant pastor. Don & Iva sang and preached on the radio and in churches. They continued a ministry until Rev. Cummings death in 1979. Iva lived in South Dakota until she moved to Nashville with her family. After Rev. Cummings passed away, she lived in Pierce, NE for 23 years until she moved to Mt. Juliet to be close to her four children. Iva Cummings co-wrote "I Won't Decorate Your Christmas Tree This Year" with Loretta Lynn, as well as others. Iva was the world's greatest mother to her four children, Debbie Foust, Barbara Cummings, Don Cummings, & Bobby Cummings, as well as her grandson, Billy Bob, whom she raised. She is also survived by brothers, Ray & Verlyn Gibson; sister, Lillian Meyer; special sister-in-law, Jo Ann Gibson; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; special adopted daughter, Cathy; her wonderful son-in-law, Mike Foust; special daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cummings, her best friend, Donna Kahland of Pierce, NE, Kristi Vicks, 12 nieces and nephews and many great friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Leona; brother, Loyis; and her husband, Don. Funeral services for Iva Cummings will be Wed., July 9th at 4 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Bro. Mike Shelton officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
