Obituary of Irvin Stempson

STEMPSON II, Irvin Curtis "Corky" Age 60, unexpectedly passed away at home in Nashville, Tennessee, Jan. 9, 2013. Corky was born Jan. 3, 1953 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Irvin Stempson and Juanita Corn Stempson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Norma Stempson Travaglini; nephew, Robert Edward "Robbie" Travaglini, II; maternal grandparents, Ralph Corn, Sr. and Blanche Myers Corn; paternal grandparents, Carl Stempson and Marie Stempson Shigley . Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Mary Carr Stempson of the home, son Christopher and wife Michelle Stempson of Lebanon, Tennessee; sister Mrs. Susan Stempson Cox (Arthur Stephen) of Los Alamos, New Mexico; brother Robert Stempson of Athens, Georgia; paternal uncle Myron Stempson (Mary) of Dawson, Minnesota; and brother-in-law Robert Travaglini of Asheville, North Carolina. Corky is also survived by niece Wendy Stempson Dye (Scott) of Watkinsville, Georgia; nephews Michael Love of Yulee, Florida, Arthur Stephen Cox II (Suzanne) of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Joseph Travaglini (Rebecca) and Christopher Travaglini (Michelle) of Asheville, North Carolina. Corky is also survived by three great-nieces and seven great-nephews. Corky is a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School, Asheville, North Carolina, and Asheville-Buncombe Technical College, Asheville, North Carolina with a degree in Mechanics. He retired from Gillman-Durango Paper Company in St. Mary's Georgia in 2003 after working there for 27 years. Corky was an avid NASCAR Fan, a certified mechanic and a Journeyman carpenter. Of Corky many hobbies, his and his family's favorites were his room of animated slot-car and train tracks. Friends and are invited to visit the family at his son's home in Lebanon, Tennessee on Sunday evening or Monday afternoon and evening, following the "service of celebration of Corky's life" to be held at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon, Tennessee from 9 AM until 11 AM, on Monday January 14, 2013. St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Lebanon Tennessee will hold his Memorial Mass. A private burial will take place in the Stempson burial plot at a later date.
