Obituary of Dezma Day Hoskin

DEZMA DAY HOSKIN - age 83 of the Cross Lanes community of Macon County passed away on Sunday October 30, 2011 at the Hendersonville Medical Center. Funeral Services for Ms. Dezma D. Hoskin were conducted on Wednesday November 2nd at 2pm from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Bro. David Simmons officiating. Earl Burton, Harold Rollin, Paul Day, Jody Swindle, Jessie White, Tommy Burton, James Day, David Crowder, and Terry Driver served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Shrum Cemetery. Dezma D. Day was born on February 16, 1928 in Lafayette, Tennessee to the late Frank and Bessie Barber Day. She was one of six siblings born to this union. In May of 1948, Dezma was married to her sweetheart, George Thomas Hoskin. They shared fifteen years together before his passing on November 10, 1963. They were blessed with three daughters, Patricia, Peggy, and Patsy who they loved dearly. Besides her husband and parents; Brothers, George Day and Leonard Day, Twin sister, Ezma C. Day, and sister, Lillian Rollin, also preceded her in death. After George passed away, Dezma took on the role of mother and father; her girls called her "Supermom". Dezma always made sure her family was taken care of first; they were of the utmost importance to her. Dezma pieced together several quilts in her spare time. She also enjoyed gardening. During the summer if you did not find her in the garden patch, you could find her in the fields helping her family tend to the crops. She also loved to play Rook and Marbles with family and friends. There are many memories left behind, but also a large empty spot. Dezma will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her. She is survived by: Daughters and Sons in Law, Patricia (James) Melvin Scruggs of Cross Lanes Community, Peggy (Gary) Bell of Siloam Community, and Patsy (Jerry) Burton of Hartsville, Brother, Mitchell "Junior" Day of Wixtown Community, Grandchildren, Angela "Annie" Scruggs of Nashville, Tommy Burton of Hartsville, and Tammy Swindle of Westmoreland, Step-Granddaughter; Michelle Patterson of Gallatin, she also leaves behind three Great-grandchildren, Tiffany Swindle, Ashley Swindle, and Dustin Burton, and three Step Great-grandchildren.
