Arnie Guinn

Obituary of Arnie B. Guinn

Arnie B. Guinn was born February 1, 1923, in Macon County, Tennessee, the son of the late James Harrison and Merica Elmer Doss Guinn. He departed this life January 18, 2013. On October 19, 1946, he was married to Ruby Jewel Higdon. To this union was born 3 daughters, Carolyn, Charlotte, and Jean. Besides his parents 3 brothers, Joe, Clessie, and Mitchell, and an infant sister, Dorothy, preceded him in death. On Jan. 27, 1943, he entered the United States Army where he served in World War II. He was not a saved man when he went into the army. He would tell of an incident where a log rolled over on his foot and broke it. That kept him off the battlefield where many, many soldiers lost their life during that time. Then later, when he was able to return to the battlefield in New Guinea, he was in a nest of leaves down in a foxhole with bullets flying above him, and he put his full trust in the Lord and received salvation of his soul. On Jan. 31, 1946, he was honorably discharged from the military. Mr. Arnie returned to the farm and took pride in raising good crops and making bountiful vegetable gardens. Even though he worked very hard on the farm, he also took a job with the Macon County Highway Department and became foreman at the rock crusher. Later, he helped on the construction of the building for the Carter Automotive Products Corporation, and when Carter's began operation, he went to work in the janitorial department and later transferred to an assembly line where he worked until the factory closed. He enjoyed reminiscing about the many events that happened during those working days. In July, 1960, during the revival at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, all 3 daughters were saved during the same service. It was during that revival the girls, along with Mr. Arnie and Mrs. Ruby joined the church. Mr. Arnie loved life; for several years there was a wonderful fellowship enjoyed by family, neighbors and friends from all around when they gathered in to celebrate his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lonie Higdon's, birthday. Many fond memories are recalled of Mr. Arnie and his family at these "dinners" as it is usually referred to. He was a good Christian man, a good husband, father, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed here on earth, but we realize he has gone to his eternal home, of peace and happiness where there is no pain or sorrow. Mr. Arnie is survived by; wife, Ruby Higdon Guinn, daughters, Carolyn (Tommy) Napier, Charlotte (Tom) Dawes, Jean (Bobby) Brooks, all of Lafayette, brother, Robert Leon (Allene) Guinn of Louisville, KY, grandchildren, Chris (Renee) Napier, Barry (Jeannie) Frasier, Belisza (Michael) Veatch, Wendy (Tim) Carter, Tasha (Jeff) Meador, and Chandra Brooks and fiance John Stewart, step-grandchildren, Denise (Shawn) Vantrease, Steve Dawes and Robert Dawes, and Donna (Pat) Griffin, great-grandchildren, Trevor and Brittney Napier, Alex and Connor Frasier, Sarah Veatch Chase, Chelsea, and Chance Carter, and Tyler and Dylan Meador.
