Obituary of Elder G. F. Davenport

Elder G.F. Davenport was born in the Gladdice Community in Jackson County, Tennessee on December 8, 1926 to the former Harmon and Allene Hankins Davenport. He was a faithful member of Drapers Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church until his death. Elder Davenport was ordained as a Minister in March of 1950 at Willette Missionary Baptist Church. He pastored several churches in Macon and surrounding communities such as Liberty, Days Crossroads, Gulley Creek, and Gladdice Missionary Baptist Church. He also pastor for Athens Missionary Baptist Church forty years. On August 27, 1950, Elder Davenport married the former Edna Lou Woodard. They started a home and raised one son, Barry and one daughter, Barbara. He and Edna owned and operated one of the first greenhouses in this area and a fabric store for several years in the Draper Town Community. They shared almost forty-seven years together until Edna's death on March 20, 1997. Elder Davenport was a member of the Red Boiling Springs Masonic Lodge for over fifty years. He always taught his family to put God and Church first in their lives. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. On September 8, 2013, the Lord called Elder Davenport to his new home. He is now with the Master he served for so many years, basking in the glories of Heaven. He has left an empty place in the surrounding communities and in his family's heart, but our loss is Heavens' Gain. Funeral services for Elder G. F. Davenport were conducted Friday, Sept. 20th at 1 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Terry Austin officiating. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Elder G. F. is survived by; Son, Barry (Betty) Davenport of the Kirbytown Community in Macon County, TN, Daughter, Barbara (Bobby) Dallas of Lafayette, TN, Grandsons, Bobby Joe (Julie) Davenport of Pleasant Shade, TN, and Eliot Davenport of Lafayette, TN, Granddaughters, Amy Dallas of Lafayette, TN, and Sara (Jared) Gentry of Red Boiling Springs, TN, Great-grandchildren, Jacob and Katie Beth Davenport of Pleasant Shade, TN, and Emma Kate Gentry of Red Boiling Springs, TN, Sisters, Mary Carter and Martha Brooks both of Carthage, TN, Brothers, Robbie (Altie) Davenport of Florida, and Hugh (Elsie) Davenport of Kirbytown Community in Macon County, TN.
