Obituary of Virginia Ann Atkins

Virginia Ann Bergdorf Atkins was born on December 10, 1949 to the late Harvey Layton Bergdorf and Ada Gustine Sexton Bergdorf. She was one of nine siblings. Besides Virginia's parents; sisters, Joyce Faye and Peggy Ann Bergdorf, and Brothers, Joe, Edward, and Donald Bergdorf also preceded her in death. On November 25, 1967, Virginia was married to the love of her life Harold Eugene Atkins. They started a home and raised two children, Jennifer and Terry. On the 25th of this month they would have been together, forty-six years. She was a stay at home mom and babysat for the public, twenty-five years. Virginia loved children and enjoyed her time spent caring for them. Family was of the utmost importance to Virginia. Just having the grandchildren and great-grandchildren around made her day complete. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. On October 31, 2013, the Lord called Virginia to her new home. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Funeral services for Virginia Atkins were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 pm from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Billy Jones officiating. Josh Brawner, Holden Atkins, Richie Bergdorf, Chris Bergdorf, Kevin Joyner, Jeremy Sauseda, and Torrie Lowhorn served as Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Lafayette City Cemetery. Virginia is survived by; Husband, Harold Atkins, Daughter and Son-in-law, Jennifer (Troy) Brawner, Son and Daughter-in-law, Terry (Gilda) Atkins, Granddaughter, Maghen (Kevin) Joyner, Grandsons, Josh (Megan) Brawner, Holden (Tori) Atkins, Step-granddaughters, Sheena (Randall) Sewell, Mandy (Shawn) Stinson, six Great-Grandchildren, five Step Great-Grandchildren, Brothers, H.
