Obituary of Robert Lucas

Robert “Bob” Lucas passed away on January 9, 2021, shortly before his 96th birthday, surrounded by his loved ones near and far. He joins his beloved wife Mary Lee, who preceded him in death in 2007, and his sisters Camille, Marge and Lucy. He is survived by his three children, Jeanne, Al and Judy, their spouses, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Bob lived a full life and stayed busy to the end. Born in Brownstown, Indiana in 1925, he went to war at 17 serving in the Army Air Corp during WW2. Upon his return, he studied at Indiana University and began work in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry, a career that lasted over 45 years. His career took him to many areas of the country before the family settled in Jamestown, RI in 1965. He enjoyed living by the ocean, especially when he could show it off to his mid-west family and he loved sailing his J class sailboat. He was also an accomplished woodworker, building everything from kitchen cabinets to Grandfather clocks. He was a loving spouse and father, and he loved entertaining and telling stories. In 1993, Bob and Mary Lee moved to the dream home they built in Gallatin, TN, strategically situated between his east coast and west coast children and close to their extended family in the IN, IL and MO. Here they enjoyed making new lifelong friends, antiquing, wood working, gardening, and hosting family and friends for reunions and get togethers. For Bob, every day was ‘a beautiful day’ and another opportunity to get something done. At his request, there will be a private gathering planned for a final farewell.
