Hershel was a one of a kind individual! Not only could he write a great song; but man could he tell a story! And he interjected that laugh of his so strategically that you could not re-tell the same story to someone else without imitating it!! I had so many good times with Hershel as a kid, & the 1970’s were a magical time for me, in which the whole Butts family was a big part of. I recall a time that Hershel was singing “Just A Bowl of Butter Beans” aka “ Just A Cliser Walk With Thee”; and my mom came walking up to the stage from the audience with a big bowl of… you guessed it , butter beans, and placed it at Hershel’s feet! I’ve never seen someone try so hard to keep from cracking up laughing as Hershel did!! And as a kid, I always thought Hershel was Billy Crash Craddock, just using a different name! And when I learned of his third name, Carl Gillon ( wink, wink)Inknew he was Crash! Course Craddock never did a song about a bulldog eating his chain, ha!

Your easy-going-ness was always comforting! I will you Hershel..that is until we get to all pick again!
