Obituary of Ewing McMurtry

Ewing Thomas McMurtry was born in Sumner County, Tennessee, on March 21, 1933 to the late Lawrence and Bessie McMurtry. He was one of six siblings born to this union. Ewing married Betty Jo Wilson on October 5, 1968, sharing forty-four wonderful years together. They raised five children, some from previous marriages, but you wouldn't know it. There was always enough love in this home for everyone. Besides Ewing's parents; two sons, Tommy McMurtry and L.V. Scoggins, III, and one brother, Ralph McMurtry also preceded him in death. Ewing was self-employed, working in remodeling and construction as a Dry Waller. For over forty-six years, Ewing put in long hours and during that time, made a lot of friends. Ewing enjoyed getting together with family and friends, playing his guitar and singing. He was a member of the Lafayette Church of God. On Tuesday, December 4, 2012 the Lord called Ewing home. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him. Funeral services for Ewing McMurtry were conducted Friday, December 7th, at 11 am from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Pastor James Effler and Reverend Paul Baggett officiating. Aaron Scoggins, Jeffery Beck, Charles Scoggins, Charles Scoggins, Jr., David McMurtry, Tommy McMurtry, Joey Norris, and Henry Davidson served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Ewing is survived by, Wife, Betty McMurtry, Sons, Charles (Gina) Scoggins, Ewing David (Anita) McMurtry, Tony McMurtry all of the Pleasant Shade Community in Macon County, TN, Daughters, Lora Schumacher of Nashville, TN, Rose Reid of Lafayette, TN, Lydia Atmore of Bethpage, TN, Brothers, Lawrence McMurtry, Billy (Martha) McMurtry all of Gallatin, TN, Harold (Irene) McMurtry of South Carolina, Sister, Betty Jean Lyles of Gallatin, TN, Twenty-one grandchildren, and Fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.
